Grief is a natural response to loss. While grief is experienced universally, it is also an individualized experience; there is no right or wrong way to grieve and there is no timeline. How you grieve and cope depends on many factors, including the nature of the relationship, your temperament, the circumstances of the loss and many others. Grief can be challenging and overwhelming at times. You may experience many mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, or behavioral reactions that may be new to you. Sometimes what is needed is simply non-judgmental support and a listening ear.
Whatever the relationship or type of loss, grief support is available to all members of the Charles County Community. If you or someone you know needs assistance coping with the death of a loved one, we can help.
Grief Support Group
We offer a support group, Compassionate Coping, that is open to anyone in the Charles County community. If you are grieving the death of a loved one, this provides you an opportunity to obtain support from others who are also experiencing a loss. Please click on the link below for more information.

Individual Grief Counseling
Grief counseling can help in:
- Reducing feelings of distress and isolation.
- Managing anxiety and stress.
- Developing coping strategies.
- Increasing personal awareness and insight.
Our bereavement team offers up to ten free sessions of grief counseling for families of hospice patients after their loved one dies.
As well, we offer ten sessions of grief counseling for community members for $30 per session. Our mission is not to help you “get over” your loss, but rather learn about your grief and find healthy ways of coping. Please click on the link below for more information.
Grief support for hospice families and the residents of Charles County is now provided under the brand umbrella of the Chesapeake Life Center. It is possible to receive information from the Chesapeake Life Center as part of your grief support program at Hospice of Charles County.
